Clean brackish waters of Aland Islands are fishermen´s goal for several years. A lot of European fishing groups visit this place. Slender Aland pikes hunt their food in deep bays near stony isles and at the reed banks. Shoals of sea trouts and salmons could be found close to the sea coast. Some keepers of fishing districts on the island have understood that it is necessity to take care about fish population. They have initiated limited number of fishing licences and the fisherman rules have been made more restrictive. Fish catches are better from year to year.
Accomodation
Nordqvist Stugby
Between Basto and Bjorksater districts there are 8 cottages, each for 4 people. They are surrounded with forest and water. The nearest shop is about 15 km.
In the fishing district of Nordqvist - Bergo the best average catches have been hunted and that is why our agency offers you this place for a stay. Each fisherman can keep one pike a day which measures 60 -85 cm. It is admitted to take 3 pikes away from the fishing district per a person. Pikes measured under 60 cm and more than 85 cm have to be released back to the water.
Cottage description:
Floor space 64 m2 – 2 bedrooms with two beds (separated with a bed screen), living room (TV, DVD), full equipped kitchen (cooker, freezer, microwave oven, coffee maker), dining recess, shower, lavatory, sauna, terrace with garden furniture and a broiler. The boats with four-stroke engine with power of 4 HP are available.
Cottage Björkbäcken
Cottage Björkbäcken is situated on the eastern coast of the island Björkö.
Floor space of the comfortable cottage for 6 (8) people is 80 m2. There is a large living room, (TV-sat, DVD, fireplace), a full equipped kitchen (a cooker, a fridge with a freezer, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a tea kettle), a three-bed bedroom and a bathroom (shower, lavatory, a washing machine and sauna). There are a two-bed bedroom and a bedroom with french bed in the attic. There are two terraces with garden furniture, a broiler and a smoke house. There is a ban of smoking in the whole cottage. Borrowed bed clothes are included in the cost of stay.
A dockyard and the space for barbecue is situated right in front of the cottage. Boats are 4,2-4,4 m long with engines 4 HP. Fishermen housed in the cottage Björkbäcken go fishing to the district Bamböle eventually in Svartsmara. In the eastern part of the fishing district Bamböle there you can find more shallow places for fishing that are more successful in spring season. It is used the method of „catch and release“ there. Each fisherman can keep one pike a day which measures 60-85 cm in Bamböle district . It is admitted to take 3 pikes away from the fishing district per a person. Pikes measured more than 85 cm have to be released back to the water.
Bastö
One of the best equipped fishing bases is Bastö that lies in the central part of the islands near to the bay.
Twenty effectively comfortable cottages are available, a small hotel, a kiosk, a restaurant, a freezer, a telephone, sauna, mini-golf, a rowing-boat and motor boats with an engine of 4-10 HP. There is a restaurant in the camp Basto with a season operation – it is possible to arrange a half board.
Camping Bastö is relatively under a big fishing pressure. Unfortunately German and Austrian fishermen come to visit it but their behaviour is not too sportive.
Cottage furniture:
Floor space of 40 m2, two bedrooms with two beds, a living room with a full equipped kitchen (a cooker, a fridge with a freezer, a microwave oven, a coffee maker, electric rating, shower and lavatory). Hotel rooms have two beds, shower and lavatory. Some apartments have a dining recess.
Other activities
Cycling, Picking mushrooms and cranberries, golf. You can also visit a fishing museum, Kastelholm catle, an open-air museum or Bomarsund fortress.

Fishing district
Aland is a multifarious island world which separate Baltic sea and Bothnian bay. You can find sandy beaches, rocky islands, reed bays and piny forests there. Aland forms a natural border between Sweden and Finland. It is an independent territory belonging to Finland. The population of about 25000 live in 6500 islands about 150 km northeast from Stockholm.
Each fishing camp mentioned under the link „Accommodation“ has its own fishing district. Characteristic deeps are between 1-4 metres, the deepest is up to 12 metres in local waters. The island coast is stony and overgrown with reeds. If we compare Aland fishing districts with common central-european waters, we can say that they evoke a large lake with a lot of small isles and rugged coasts.
Fish kinds and fishing season
Fishing season starts in April and finishes in October in the Aland isles.
- Pike: Ideal season for fishing pikes is May, the beginning of June and September, October. Registered record - 136 cm.
- Percid: All-year season. Ideal fishing season – August and September. Registered record - 53 cm.
- Pikeperch: Short fishing season in June, July and August.
- Sea trout: Fishing season is from April to May and from the end of October to December. Fishery at the sea coast.
- Salmon: Fishing season from the half of May to June using deep spinning on the sea.
Herring is a small but delicious fish. It is a very common catch here. You can also get chubs, breams, roaches, tenches, maraenas and halibuts.
Fishing techniques
Spining, floatfishing, bar fishing, fly fishing, predator hunting for a fish. We usually go fishing in brackish waters (mild salty water) from the boats. Spining of pikes, percids and sea trouts has the most supporters. A lot of big pikes are hunted for natural baits every year. Percids are hunted for natural baits or for spinning technique too.
We hunt sea trouts with a spinning technique, alternatively using false flies.
Trolling is a good chance to catch a salmon.
Equipment we recommend
Fishing of pikes, pike perches and sea trouts - spinning: rod about 2,75 m long, throwing weight of 10 - 40 g, fish line with a diameter of 0,20 - 0,30 mm. Wobblers, ruber fish, twisters and spoons are used as fishing lures.
Percid fishing – light trail rod 1,8 - 2,7 m long, throwing weight of 8 - 15 g, fish line 0,16 - 0,20 mm. Fishing lures: twisters, rotators and spoons.
Transport
By car
The journey from Prague to Aland in a car is 1.400 km long but the roads are in a very good condition. The price of the round ticket for ferry transport from Germany to Sweden and then from Sweden to Aland for a car and maximum 5 people is between 8.000 - 12.000 Kc. On the bus
The journey on the bus from Prague to the Aland islands takes about 30 hours (including about 6 + 2 hours on the ferry). We use luxury buses and professional crew for a transport on the island. Our vehicles can take about 49 people but we carry only 36 passengers. There is a possibility to pick you up in České Budějovice, Prague and Teplice.
Customers who travel to the Aland islands on the bus are housed in the fishing camps Nordqvist and Bjorksater. Terms of the bus tours and prices you can find in a section "Terms and prices".
On the plane
There is a good flight connection from Prague to Aland over Helsinki. Departure from Prague is usually on Saturday evening and an arrival to Aland in the evening hours. Returned flight from Aland islands is possible in the evening with an arrival to Prague in the evening.
We recommend regular flights with ČSA and SAS corporations if you travel to Sweden. They offer the most alternatives to this part of Europe and react flexibly and seriously in the case of delay, changes in flight plan or delay of luggage.

Extra pays: only 2 fishermen on the boat - 1.200,- Kč /a person
